Most of Bazi describes what you already are. The Useful God is the part that tells you what to add. It is the element your chart is short of functionally, and organising your environment around it is the most concrete advice the system produces.
The logic follows directly from strength. If your Day Master is weak, you need support, so the Useful God is the element that produces you, or sometimes your own element reinforced. If your Day Master is strong, you need an outlet, so it is whichever of output, wealth or authority the chart can best channel into.
Which of those three depends on what the chart already has. A strong chart with heavy resource support needs an outlet through output. A strong chart with heavy peer support needs authority to hold it. Choosing correctly requires looking at counts rather than picking the nicest-sounding option.
In a balanced chart there may be no single Useful God. Then the season takes over: a cold, wet chart wants warmth, a hot, dry chart wants water, and if neither dominates the honest answer is that you follow conditions rather than a fixed element.
Alongside the Useful God there are two more labels worth knowing. The element that produces your Useful God is the helpful one, and it makes the lever work better. The element your Useful God controls, or that controls it, is the unhelpful one, and years or environments flooded with it are where you should slow down.
This is the mechanism behind the yearly forecast. Each year brings its own stem and branch with their own elements. When those match your Useful God, the year reads as a tailwind. When they match the unhelpful one, it reads as resistance. Nothing supernatural is happening; the same chart is being scored against a changing background.
The classical prescriptions are colour, direction, season and time of day, and they are easy to dismiss. They work better when you read them as environment design rather than as luck charms.
None of that is mystical and all of it is testable. Run the water prescription for a month if water is your Useful God and see whether your judgment improves when rested. If it does, you have learned something about yourself that is worth more than the framework that pointed you at it.
A Useful God does not neutralise a chart's structure. A blade-heavy chart with water as its Useful God is still a blade-heavy chart; stillness makes it more usable rather than less sharp. Expecting the element to change who you are is the fastest way to conclude the system does not work.
